My name is Betsy Borden, and I am the Director of Nursing for a skilled nursing facility in Selmer, Tennessee. Our county does not have a hospital. When we had a blood test, or urine test ordered, we had to either collect the specimens ourselves and carry them to a hospital lab thirty miles away in the adjoining county or wait for a phlebotomist to come to our facility the next day to pick up the specimens.
Urinary tract infections are serious, especially in elderly and debilitated patients. It was customary for us to wait up to a week to get a simple urinalysis report back, plus additional time to get the culture and sensitivity report back. This delayed our treatment. The delays in reports led to hospitalization and rehospitalizations that may have otherwise been preventable with prompt testing and treatment.
A representative from Precision Life Science stopped by our facility as he passed through. I shared the above scenario with him, and he said he could help us with the delayed urine test results. Fast forward three months, and I have to say that Precision Life Science has changed the lives of residents and staff. We now collect a urine specimen and call for a FedEx pick-up. We typically have results in hand within 24 hours. Along with the molecular result, which is patient-specific, we have a recommended antibiotic name, dose, and length of time recommended to treat the infection.
The transition was simple; the team at Precision Life is supportive 24/7. Our facility was the pilot for AHC. Now, all AHC facilities utilize Precision Life Science for their molecular urine testing. I could not be happier with the service provided to our residents, staff, and medical providers.
